Cannot set microsteps in multidrop UART

Using 3x TMC2209 in UART multidrop configuration, I cannot set the microsteps by UART, it takes de MSI pin address configuration for the address

I used your sample code as test base with two steppers connected (0x02 and 0x03). They Are connecting and I can control them but the microsteps are fixed to 16 and 64 and I would like to have them on 8. I need to run them at the same speed with the same acceleration an deacceleration settings

Connections:

• VIO -> ESP32-C3 3.3V
• GND -> GND (common)
• VM -> 12V
• Enable -> Ground
• 1K Resistor between GPIO2 (UART1 TX) and GPIO10 (UART1 RX)
• GPIO10 to TMC UART

Addressing:

• For stepper 5: MS1 High and MS2 High (0x03)
• For Stepper 6: MS1 Low and MS2 High (0x02)

Switched to an other solution... if I use more the one UART on a ESP32-S3 I get allot of connection error, sometimes it works for a few TMC's sometimes not and I don't have the time to troubleshoot further... With one UART its works 9 out of 10 times.

On the hardware side you need to set their addresses using their MS1/2 inputs as shown below (figure 4.1 and section 3.4 from the datasheet)

@EvoSems this only works with TMC2209 not TMC2208. The TMC2208 does not allow serial addressing.

Are you sure that’s a 1k Ohm resistor? If so, I don't see anything particularly wrong with either your wiring or your configuration.

Is the issue consistent? Do they work separately on those addresses? What happens if you use lower baud rates (e.g., 9600 or 115200)?

There have been UART related changes in ESPHome since I last tested a multi-driver configuration, so I'll have to run tests myself as well at some point.

I have realised my mistake. I have the one wire going through the TX on the driver not RX!!! god damn sometimes its the simplest of things. working great now! many thanks

I will also test different micro steps/per stepper once I pick up a few connectors today and report back

fyi: I do seem to have seperate micro steps for each 2209. are you on a breadboard?
